We often distinguish the neighborhoods of Rome according to two characteristics: "tourist" or "not tourist".
For example, the historic center is touristy but Pigneto is not. San Lorenzo, the student district, is not very touristy and the Rione Monti neither even if it is becoming more and more hipstery. And then there is the Vatican, the smallest state in the world yet with the highest density of tourists per square kilometer, whose walls are located inside a residential area - Prati.
And then there is a "hybrid" neighborhood, a part of Rome that all tourists have heard about and where the natives have their habits, an area where Romans and tourists from around the world share an apperitivo, a district where the many restaurants and bars offer very reasonable prices, a parenthesis within the eternal city that has kept the charm of a small village in southern Italy with its cobbled streets, colorful buildings, and linen lying between two buildings .. This is Trastevere!
Trastevere - literally meaning "on the other side of the Tiber" is a must-see area of Rome. You will understand it is a neighborhood where authenticity and novelty are mixed in small colorful streets. Trastevere includes few museums and no antique monuments. It's more like a neighborhood to go from late afternoon after a long day of walking through the city or just to find friends after work.
From 5pm the neighborhood comes alive, the heat becomes less stifling, the shops reopen and it is nice to eat an ice cream sitting in front of the fountain of Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. Later comes the time of the apperitivo and there is a choice, we can not mention all the stalls that propose concept, but you will find the best ones below.
And then the night continues, night markets settle, the streets fill up, the music becomes louder, here you are in the ideal district to party Italian way: few clubs - Italians are more likely to drink in the street - but a lot of bars and improvised evenings in the apartment or directly on the street.
